After four years of attacks by the Trump administration, U.S. diplomacy is badly broken but it is not beyond repair. How to save the state department? Crucial priorities must be made regarding strategic challenges and opportunities such as resilience in American society, climate change, cyber threats, pandemics, and the geopolitical competition with China. This is not enough, change must begin with investing in (the state department) people and creating a new culture of work.
